North Atlantic squadron visits Portsmouth in grand harbor arrival

The Indiana led the six ship North Atlantic squadron into Portsmouth harbor this afternoon drawing over 8000 visitors from surrounding areas. The fleet halted off Whalesback Light for maneuvers before entering the river and anchoring by the navy yard. Fire razes stable as six horses perish in Providence blaze

A noon fire at W S Fifield & Co hay and grain stable near Pearl and Central streets destroyed a two story plus building, sheds, and a rear dwelling. Six horses died, including a valuable driving horse, with total damage about 20000 dollars and insurance covering the loss. R B Little & Co owned the buildings, leased to Fifield.
