Hawthorne pardon sought by Woman's Home Association
The Woman's Home Association plans to appeal to President Wilson for Julian Hawthorne Jr. to secure a pardon. Resolutions say justice is served, he is penniless at 67, and the plea stresses his humiliation and need to support himself. Signed by Charlotte Smith and others, the appeal targets clemency. A separate coroner's finding assigns blame to William Rigby for a Hartford railroad accident in North Kent last June that killed fireman Thomas J. Walden.
