State House reports indicate the Railroad Commission will rule today in favor of New Haven’s request to build the Palmer to Southbridge line. Approval would seal New Haven’s hold on western Massachusetts transportation and block Grand Trunk’s expansion.
The Grand Trunk organized under Massachusetts law to build a Palmer to Rhode Island line months before the New Haven filed a counter petition with the Railroad Commission. Hearings were held with supporters from Massachusetts urging direct transport to the West and Northwest, while New Haven’s William B. Jackson argued any granted rights should go to a Massachusetts rather than foreign corporation.
A two alarm fire in Chelsea broke out near Au burn and Second streets early this morning. An unoccupied stable at 166 Second street and the three apartment building at 166 were damaged. Police deem the fire incendiary and expect arrests. Officer Bartley spotted the glow from half a mile away at 1 30 and sounded the alarm. Fire damage is about 1000 dollars insured.
Quincy July 8 A young girl attempting to beat last Tuesday's swimming record at Hough's Neck was pulled from the water by Edward P. Powers who spotted her waving for help while cruising in a power boat.

In Newark Ohio a mob of about 500 attacked Licking County jail and hanged Carl Etherington a 22 year old blind tiger detective employed by the State Anti Saloon League. Etherington confessed to shooting saloonkeeper William Howard amid riots following the day of violence. Police protected other prisoners as the mob dispersed.
Captain E. H. Pentecost of the Saxonia resigns from sea life to settle with his wife Miss Marion Pierce of Topsfield Massachusetts. He arrived on the Mauretania and heads to Boston to become a landlubber, after wooing his bride for a year and a half and marrying last January. The couple faced long separations after the marriage.
A large core section measuring about 30 yards in length, seven yards in width, and seven yards in height is being removed from the site. The operation impacts surrounding structures and workflow, with crews planning safe dismantling and site clearance in the coming days.

Rob ert G Dryenforth a wealthy patent attorney died July 4 filing a will that creates a trust for his son Robert St George Dryenforth aged 8. The will requires guardianship from women and outlines staged support and education plans including Harvard at 18 and Oxford study followed by the US Military Academy and law practice. Executors named William H Harold and Robert Dryenforth.
New York reports a Wright biplane will soon be installed in the shed of the Aeronautical Society at Mineola. One of the Wright aviators is rumored to be placed in charge, signaling a notable addition to the society’s facilities and expertise.
Park departures for Worcester limited cars run on weekdays hourly from 8 a m to 6 p m. Fares are 55 cents single and 1 dollar for a round trip.

Albert G. Shook, alleged hotel beating suspect and choir singer, was held in 6500 bail in police court. He appeared in a Prinze Albert suit with a Bible, treated the proceedings as a caper, and pleaded not guilty to the charges as read.
