Elkes Defeats Walthour in Narrow Hour Race at Charles River Park
Elkes beat Walthour for the sixth time this season at Charles River Park in a nearly 20 mile hour race. Walthour led early but a tire issue and miscues slowed him as Elkes, with pacers Reimer and Fournier, stretched a growing lead. Walthour’s tandem suffered a broken tire and a chain break sidelined him while Elkes changed wheels twice and kept the sudden changes from derailing his pace. Walthour quit after 86 miles and Elkes posted 40 miles in the hour, with a final time around 2:63½. Five mile open and mile prizes followed with Kimball and Downey among the winners.
