Herbert E Hill twenty one years old, suffering delusions of incurable disease, shot and killed his sister Mrs Francis B Riley and critically wounded his mother Mrs Amelia Hill at 1 Waverly street Roxbury. He fled for seven and a half hours, evading 160 policemen and newspaper men until a conductor named Ernest Johnson overheard his confession and steered him toward poison. Hill was captured, identified as Herbert Hill of Brockton, and jailed after a tense police interview. He claimed brain illness and could not remember the killings.

Brockton July 8 James F Burke an employee of Walter R Mains circus was arrested this afternoon on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. The incident occurred on the circus grounds during a dog fight when Burke allegedly struck a boy and then fought with James Marrow who later received a severe throat wound from a knife Burke drew.
