Tariff bill sent to conference amid debate over time limits
In Washington on July 8 the House named conferees to handle the tariff bill and debated limits for debate time. Democrats protested the majority’s refusal to set a debate schedule, urging action on Cuban belligerency and bankruptcy measures. The day closed with tributes to the late William S. Holman and adjournment.

Osceola Tamarack Kearsarge mining plan prompts stock shake
A dull market closes lower as a proposed amalgamation of Osceola, Tamarack Jr., and Kearsarge mining interests looms. A new company may form with 160000 shares. Osceola yields at least $2 per share, Kearsarge has a large surplus but no mill, Tamarack Jr. holds rich ore yet carries debt of about $100000. Ownership, exchange basis, and geographic separation worsen the reunification challenge.
