In Malden on July 8 Joseph J. Crocker tried to kill his wife and child by cutting their throats. Neighbors intervened and saved them. He then attempted to throw himself before a train but was stopped by railroad workers. He was arrested, deemed insane, detained, and later sent to Danvers Insane Asylum in a straight jacket after a violent struggle with attendants. Crocker, 62, born in England, had seemed quiet prior.
