Lake Michigan storm wrecks buildings and loss of horses

A Chicago storm struck at 6 30 PM with high winds and heat. Four lives were lost on Lake Michigan as boats capsized near the yacht Pilot with victims including Charles Kline John Ross and Charles Leeshook. Horses Brown Bonnie and Rustler owned by M T Stanley were mortally injured.

Milford Tragedy as Shoemaker Killed in Cider Mill

Richard Hawley, a Milford shoemaker, was shot and killed by John Hodges of Medway Village late at night while entering Hodges's cider mill. Hodges claimed self defense as Hawley and two companions tried to flee. Hawley died from a bullet through the heart. Medical Examiner Bell held the autopsy, Hodges remained unarrested, and Hawley’s relatives await word from the district attorney.
