In Washington July 7 President Roosevelt reportedly plans a bold display by sending a giant fleet to the Pacific. Officials deny the move but the president seeks to read the world a warning and prove U S readiness for modern warfare to deter Japan and European powers.
Three severe thunderstorms drenched Concord New Hampshire and surrounding areas with heavy rain and hail. Roads washed out and shade trees damaged as residents faced widespread debris. Captain John B Marshall and three crewmen survived a blaze at sea when the tug Annie Emmons crashed near Deer Island and were rescued by Matthew Dias at Shirley.
Rail lines suffered heavy washouts causing widespread train delays. In Canterbury two farm buildings owned by George W. Silver and John Moore were struck by lightning, destroyed with almost all contents. Each owner faced about $3000 in losses.
A severe coastal storm blasted Biddeford and Saco with intense lightning. Six houses were struck, three people were stunned, and all local telephone and telegraph circuits were knocked out temporarily. Trees were hit across suburbs and a cow was killed. a tree at Trull Hospital Training School was struck three times. Fire departments responded as the storm raged.
Partly cloudy Monday and Tuesday with light southwest winds. Showers are expected in Maine Tuesday. The forecast covers Boston and vicinity with a mix of sun and clouds and variable winds from the south to southwest.
The Emmons en route to Boston from Nahant towed the schooner Eastern Light from Lynn when a fire broke out under her boilers and spread to the woodwork. The crew abandoned the engine room and the tug, badly damaged, ran aground on Deer Island. Captain Marshall and crew inspected damage. engineer Newell Crowell and fireman Charles Burns returned to Boston. The Annie Emmons, built in 1882 at Athens, N.C., lay ashore as a result.
An open trolley car on the Fairmount and Clarksburg Traction system ran off the Grasse division just outside Clarksburg tonight. It toppled an embankment, killing Grace Marker and W. T. Gray, fatally injuring one passenger and seriously injuring nine others.
Marcel D. Walton aged 20 of West Somerville died by drowning in Spy Pond at the foot of Linden Street after being dragged under a rowboat. His companion Harry H. Baldwin of Belmont could not reach him in time to help.
Walton and Baldwin went out in a boat on a pond in West Somerville. They argued about tipping the craft and Walton sank after the boat upset. Baldwin rescued himself, aided by bystanders, and police recovered Walton's body. Walton was a Hodgkins Grammar graduate employed by Edison Electric Light Company.
Lieutenant Shackleton, a member of Captain Scott's crew, organizes a party to continue the Discovery expedition work in the Antarctic. The expedition will depart England in July for the far south.

Lord Castletown, a Knight of St Patrick, was to preside over the ceremony during King Edward VII’s visit, but officials say the ceremony will be postponed.
In Mattapoisett a Stoddard-Dayton touring car carrying M. B. Carpenter, Mrs Elizabeth Leonard, Miss Ruth Leonard and a young man crashed into a telegraph pole at Bolles Corner. All injured lightly. Mrs Leonard broke an arm and dislocated a shoulder. They were cared for at Mattapoisett House then returned to Wareham. Miss Leonard, age and hometown details included.
Paul J. Rainey a Newport bachelor king hosted a Newport dinner with 30 guests where he kissed the backs of the ladies hands as they arrived. Mrs Stuyvesant Fish acted as chaperon and a New York minstrel troupe performed a blackface show after dinner at his white and gold drawing room cottage.

Albert E. Royal of 113 Falmouth Street slashed his throat with a razor yesterday noon and died at City Hospital. The 46 year old writer had lost poetic inspiration eight years after fame and had spent time in medical and insane asylums before being discharged three weeks ago.

Miss Blanche Rose of Blue Hill avenue was severely injured after being thrown from a carriage following a collision with a second carriage in front of the Parkway Hotel near Revere Beach boulevard last night shortly after 10. An unknown young man rode in the carriage with her.
