In a swift bout Willard suffers five knockdowns in the opening round and cannot rise after the bell as Dempsey delivers decisive blows. Referee counts him out with no further response, giving Dempsey a knockout victory.
Jack Dempsey defeated Jess Willard in a rapid one sided fight in Toledo. Willard’s blows proved puny against Dempsey’s ferocious punching as the referee declared the champion after several extra rounds. Attendance filled the arena but many left disappointed as the bout extended into the later rounds.
The British airship R-34 on its voyage from East Fortune Scotland to Mineola New York and the Handley Page bombing plane bound for Mineola from Harbor Grace Newfoundland were reported about 50 miles off Sydney Nova Scotia at 8 o clock New York time according to wireless reports received here.
The Handley Page crew decided this afternoon to change their flight path before their hop off in hopes of sighting the British airship R 34 and reaching Mineola about 12 hours before its expected arrival, per a Harbor Grays message citing Admiral Kerr.
July 4 The trial of William Hohenzollern, announced by Premier Lloyd George to the House of Commons, is expected in London this fall. Extradition steps will be pursued if not started. Holland faces pressure as Dutch public opinion favors asylum for the Kaiser and may resist surrender.

Northern New England and eastern New York follow similar warm trends with local thunder showers likely Saturday night and Sunday. Southern New England stays pale and warmer with showers late Saturday night. A warm wave extends from the Middle Atlantic to New England and Great Lakes regions, expected to break Saturday with local thunder showers probable.
