Saugus July 4. Chief Thompson learns three Somerville men identified by Boston officers as D. B. Lifton William J. Burrell and John Sullivan were detained after being seen with a stolen team. An intoxicated man broke into John Strasser's stable at 201 Blue Hill Avenue stole a horse hitched it to a new buggy and fled down Hampden Street with pistols drawn. The wagon crashed at George and Hampden and the thief vanished. police and pedestrians offered no aid before midnight. Strasser pledges a reward for identification.
Judge Kelley led a Rockland July 4 parade with the local G A R and Massasoit Fife and Drum Corps. Crowds cheered as the procession moved through dust and heat, with Kelley in a wilted hat and a determined look. Flags waved and townspeople shouted approval as Kelley and escorts marched on schedule.
