Car Jumped Track Injuring Three in Cambridge

A Harvard square car 1822 left the temporary bridge near the Charles bank at 2 12 this morning and jumped the track. Motorman Charles S Adams and Conductor Thomas Ready remained uninjured. Three men were injured and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. Names include Joseph P Jones and a Colson. Other passenger details were unclear.

Boston Veteran Firemen Play-Out Ends With Roxbury Victory

The Boston and Roxbury Veteran Firemen’s Associations staged a Common play-out at 10 am. The Boston tub in red, white and blue sprayed water 125 ft 10 in, under Captain Wilson. Roxbury, led by Captain John Riddle with 60 men, hurled a 162 ft stream to win, prizes $150 and $100.

The Zionists picnic at Caledonian Grove in West Roxbury drew an estimated 4000 attendees. The event featured diverse games, a four-board concert, a crowded dancing pavilion, and bicycle races as a highlight of the sports.

Eastman Shoemaker Dies by Own Hand in Beverly

George D. Eastman a 42 year old Beverly shoemaker killed himself at noon using a 22 caliber rifle placed to his ear. No other persons were involved and the motive remained undisclosed.

Dorchester Avenue Shooting Suspect Tied to Rescue Bid

A man arrested for discharging firearms on Dorchester Avenue Tuesday night was attacked by two men who tried to aid him. Thompson called for help and they were taken to the police station. The would be rescuers were named August Nemit and Amil Merchener, both with unknown addresses.

Friends bid farewell to Mr. Thomas Fallon in South Boston

A farewell supper for Thomas Fallon prior to his ten month stay in Ireland raised funds from South Boston shopmates. A purse of $100 was presented by A J Cony and a further $150 was donated by the Sligo Club through Mr. Hard McKeon for his departure.

Cambridge Iron Foundry Head Dies in Nantasket Car Ride

Charles S. Mawrey of Cambridge aged 50 collapsed and died in a Nantasket street car at 5:40 pm while returning from Green Hill. Heart failure as the cause. Mawrey, who ran an iron foundry, resided at 1415 Cambridge Street Cambridge.

Macfarland Beats Michael In Twenty Mile Motor Race

Lloyd A. Macfarland of San Jose defeated Jimmy Michael in a twenty mile motor paced race at Woodside Park. Macfarland led early, trailed, then surged on the final lap to win by three yards in 32m 50s. Crooks and Sherer set a new world record in a separate five mile race with 7m 9s 1 5s.

Fireworks on Common Draw Record Crowd in Fourth Display

More than 30 000 people gathered on the Common last evening for the annual fireworks show. Rockets and Roman candles lit the sky while crowds applauded a piece featuring Cuban and American flags with a Welcome to the Cubans inscription. Cuban Welcome Parade at Harvard Ends With Laurels for Washington

Eleven hundred Cuban teachers and students marched from Memorial Hall to the Washington elm in Cambridge honoring Independence Day. The procession included Cuban flags Harvard pennants and an American flag with Superintendent Frye as assistant standard bearer. Four Shot on Main Street in Dover Killing One

West Roxbury Shooting Fatality Reported

Edward W. Jordan aged 35 is detained at Station 13 West Roxbury pending investigation into the death of 6 year old Herman Heckinger of Rowe Street West Roxbury. The boy was shot in the breast by a rifle Jordan held and died instantly. Jordan surrendered claiming accidental discharge while cleaning the rifle.

City Hospital treated about 100 accident victims from midnight Tuesday to dawn Wednesday after Fourth of July celebrations.
