Red Sox Split Doubleheader With Athletics
The Boston Red Sox and Connie Mack’s Athletics split a twin bill as Babe Ruth returned with a solid effort in the first game but the Sox’ pitching and Batting could not overcome Philadelphia. The Mackmen won 3 to 0 in the opener, while Boston rebounded to take the second 6 to 1 behind strong relief and timely hitting from Hoblitzell Bodie and Hooper. Ruth threw well but received little support as Myers baffled Boston in a sleepy first game. In the nightcap Dutch Leonard allowed one run through six as Boston plated three in the first and three more in the seventh. Strunk Bodie and Gardner sparked two costly errors by the Athletics as McInnis and Schang contributed key hits for Boston. Time 1 85, umpire Hildebrand. Attendance 5698.
