Washington Statue Unveiled in Paris by American Women
In Paris on July 3 the equestrian statue of Washington was unveiled by an American women’s association. Sousa’s band played, Ambassador Porter presided, and Consul-General Gowdy presented the statue to France. Delcasse accepted, praising Washington as a symbol of democracy and national virtue.
