In Charlotte on July 3 a mob of 75 men found John Boggan, accused of assaulting Mrs Bruner near Wadesboro, hiding in a cave. He confessed, was taken to Wadesboro, hanged from a tree, and shot dead with bullets. A card on his chest read This man confesses the deed Our Women must be protected.
A deadly collision at Winthrop Junction on the Boston Revere Beach and Lynn line at 6 15 pm killed P J Olander and two relatives while a Swede or Dane, a furniture maker, was badly injured. The flagman Joseph Coutemanche warned crossing motorists but could not stop the wagon. An apprentice passenger and the driver escaped with others unharmed as medical examiners removed the bodies and the injured was sent to hospital.
A Quebec dispatch reports Louis Riel writes to Dr Fiset outlining his surrender and hopes for trial in supreme court, claiming he sought peace in the United States before involvement with half breeds and uprisings, and describing events leading to armed resistance and his health strain amid confinement. Philadelphia July 6 a bill in equity filed by the bank names George W Bumm William H Bumm Thomas L Huggard Samuel P Milliken and executors of William Buram as defendants alleging a conspiracy to defraud the bank with William Bumm acting as president taking large sums. Warrant arrests followed for George N Bumm ex president select council William H Bumm Thomas L Huggard and Samuel P Milliken on charges of conspiring to defraud the bank of 300000 and Huggard faces perjury claims in state audits.
Weirs hosts a three day New England musical festival with 1500 attending the afternoon session and 1800 in the evening. Carl Zerrahn from Boston directs a 200 strong choir in a 3 pm grand concert featuring Blaisdell's Concord orchestra, Miss Baldwin, Mrs. Stockbridge, Mrs. Ellison, and Mrs. Shepard. Tomorrow marks the closing day with further performances.
The Neosha Falls river rose steadily over 24 hours flooding eastern areas and Main street. Crops in the bottoms were ruined and livestock drowned, while residents took to upper floors. No lives reported lost though families evacuated to second stories as boats conduct rescues.

The New York board of aldermen received a thank you letter from Admiral Lacombe of the La Flore with a French government telegram for the Liberty statue reception. A resolution approved pilot fees for the Isere and Le Flore. Police captured convict William Pratt, escaped Ipswich pen, jailed for theft in Boston. Mrs Lucille Dudley sent to Middletown insane asylum with 500 letters praising her verdict. Referee A J Requier ruled in Van Antwerp case that father deserted family after stealing $135,000 of wife securities. mother to have custody. East Anglia sighting letter from Gallia captain notes shaft accident June 23. Gallia in tow of River Avon en route to Reville. all aboard well.
Gettysburg Pa July 3 This morning the twentieth Connecticut volunteers dedicated their monument on the extreme right of the line on Culp's hill. The unveiling was done by Geo W Warner a regimental member who lost both arms on this field. John W Storrs of Birmingham Conn read a poem and H Stevens of Washington DC late chaplain of the fourteenth Connecticut regiment delivered the oration.
Special dispatch from Washington on July 3 discusses the pending choice for consul general to Cairo and mentions opposition by German interests led by Mr Deuster of Wisconsin. It notes dissatisfaction with Montana appointments, praising Mr Maginnis and criticizing Mr Hauss er. Judge William Allen of the supreme judicial court announced the water board inquiry questions arising from Mr Wilson's testimony will be referred to the full bench without a decision. This likely delays any testimony from Mr Wilson until November at earliest, even if the court later rules for the committee's petition.
William Prince stole two watches from Henry Dobbins at Hanover street. after a four shot pursuit he was captured on Portland street. George Abley was hit in the eye by a torpedo on East Boston step. Howard Wilder jailed in the Tombs on embezzlement charges from A Browning & Co.
A freight train crossing a swollen stream between Arcadia and Liberal, Kansas, derailed when a bridge gave way. Engine and 16 cars plunged into the water. Conductor E Thompson, Engineer Ross, and Fireman Reynolds drowned in the accident on the Kansas City Springfield and Memphis railroad.
In Cleveland at Newburgh on July 3 striking iron workers from the Cleveland Rolling Mills compelled all reece work stoppages. About 3500 men idled as force was used in some cases.
