Change of plea in Gilligan case after consult
Benedict M Holden chief counsel for Mrs Gilligan and State's Attorney Hugh Alcorn discussed whether she was a free moral agent due to drug use. Jury doubt could justify a second degree verdict. Hurley testified for the State before the end of testimony. This was her second trial begun June 12 after a 1916 Hartford verdict of death reprieved for appeal. Change of venue moved the trial to this city. Mary Archer, her daughter, waited in court. She will be taken to the State prison late tonight or tomorrow.
