Air brake failure blamed for Dunkirk wreck
At Dunkirk New York July 1 engineer Clifford of New York Central Westerner gasped that the air brake would not hold as the Westerner at 50 miles an hour rear collided with train No 41. Eleven killed nineteen injured and several others lightly hurt. Investigators found the air brake cut off between the engine and first car. A tramp’s body found near the tender sparked a theory that a ride on the baggage car end disabled the brake.
