An 1887 Boston ad promotes Inman steamship chairs for passengers of the Inman line, offering comfortable chairs priced at $6 and $2.50 options with initials on back. G W Simmons & Co, 320 44 North St, Boston, is named. Also notes a Sunday church sermon on politics and a steamship accident near New Haven with fatalities including Miss Mary E. Jimzham.
Three people die in a Boston to New Haven railroad wreck near Brick Yard, north of New Haven, when the 11 o clock Boston train derails after leaving Quinnipiac station. Passengers include Miss Mary E. Brigham, Holyoke president, and several others are injured. Rescue work halts as cars topple down the embankment and engines and cars lie wrecked along the line.
