Lowell men charged with assault at federal post office

John R. Tacheira and Frank F. Fialko of Lowell were arrested yesterday by U S Deputy Marshal James Ruhl for allegedly assaulting Manuel C. Pachio in the Lowell postoffice corridor on January 25. They appeared before U S Commissioner Hayes for a preliminary hearing on February 3 and were released on personal recognizance.

Word from St John New Brunswick says the schooner Alice P Turner owned by the Boston Brokerage Company bound for Boston with spruce lumber is ashore in a bad way on the beach at Black Rock Parrsboro Bay of Fundy. Part of the keel is gone the hull is damaged and full of water. A tug will attempt to float her and bring her back to Parrsboro for repairs. She is 46 years old but rebuilt seven years ago.

Portland Maine January 30. An organization named the New England Conference of State Federations of Women's Club was permanently formed at the final meeting. It endorsed the proposed national department of public health. The group represents 65 000 New England clubwomen and elected Mrs George H Fowler as secretary treasurer.
