Bath ship lost in gale near the Bahamas

The Bath built steamer B. W. Morse 4400 tons from Bath Maine was abandoned January 2 in a waterlogged state after a heavy gale off the Bahamas. Captain Newbury and three distressed seamen were rescued by the Ward line steamer Saratoga and landed at Nassau. Two seamen were washed overboard and lost. The City of Washington brought the survivors on January 20.

Moore extradition hearing postponed by Chilean Supreme Court

The Chilean Supreme Court delayed the March hearing in the Frederick T. Moore embezzlement case from the National Bank of Commerce of this city. Inspector Watts stated the inspectors would stay stationed until the matter resumes. Colonel Hallowell questioned Moore’s status, asserting the bank would persist in efforts as long as he lives.
