Foggy harbor delays mix with brisk Atlantic sailings
A dense fog hung over the harbor and bay, delaying several liners yet allowing the Winifredian of Leyland line to sail. Deck pilots Nelson and Colby guided ships out to sea while others like Admiral Dewey and Warren liner shipments departed as weather permitted. A 19-vessel fishing fleet landed 191,100 pounds of cod haddock pollock and hake with prices around 3.50 to 5.00. The Metamora arrived minus her mainboom after a damaged mainsail break, while the James Woollillg towed Brewster and cargo toward Africa. The Commonwealth and New Finland sailed, and Cambroman was expected with Italian immigrants. Storm King completed a long European voyage.
