A government report by Frank Hitchcock shows U S Asiatic trade with China Japan and Hong Kong surged to a record 87 505 628 in fiscal 1899 up from 46 294 167 in 1859 Exports rose markedly led by cotton goods kerosene oil and wheat flour while iron and steel shipments grew rapidly The positive trend continued despite some years of import restraint and the 1899 figures reflect substantial gains in exports over a decade ending 1899.

Ben Franklin Ferry to be Sold at Public Auction
