Major Dorsey Banking Bill Aims to Back National System

Major Dorsey, head of the House banking committee, prepared a bill to perpetuate the national banking system. It authorizes the Treasury to issue up to 300 million dollars in U S registered bonds, 100 dollar denominations, redeemable in coin after 50 years, with 2 percent interest. Proceeds fund circulation for national banks and may retire outstanding bonds. The bill also covers bond sale terms, note issuance equal to bond par value, and ends the one half of 1 percent duty.
