Burns Centenary Celebrated by Boston Caledonian Club

Fire alarms report minor dwelling blaze in Roxbury

In Boston and vicinity an alarm from box 319 at 6 P M Monday reported a slight dwelling fire at No 12 Dolance Roxbury owned by Patrick Woods. The fire stemmed from clothing ignited by matches. damage was trifling. A collision at Adams and Yeomans injured several firemen and bent the rear axle. A second alarm from box 143 at 2 19 P M Monday cited a $20 blaze at John Martins house Tudor Street. Kriel reports by telegraph.

Death of an Old Line Democrat Caleb Stetson of Braintree

Caleb Stetson, veteran Democrat and pioneer in the New England shoe trade, died Sunday morning near Atlanta after weeks of illness. Born January 6, 1801, in Braintree, he helped found the footwear industry with Whitney and Walker, led the Shoe and Leather Bank, and served in the Massachusetts legislature on banking matters. A longtime Mason and writer under the pen name Silax, he leaves two sons Amos Stetson and another son, and two daughters, with funeral plans to be announced in Braintree.
