Ottawa January 24 serdan j the Hon George E Foster minister of finance issued invitations to a dinner in his wife's name all guests accepted including Mackenzie Bowell Vidal Perley Prior Tilton Ryckman Wilmot Hale Bliss Gordon Jenkins and others. The guest list was trimmed to about twenty and an aide de camp to the Governor General attended. Foster's residence on Lisgar street was described with a snow carpet and nonalcoholic drinks served. A later interview with William Poster touched on Lady Stanley and Lady Macdonald actions in relation to Foster and his wife.
The gilt-edge Shore Line express from New York to Poston derailed at Nau gatuck Junction near New Haven due to a misplaced automatic switch on a drawbridge. No injuries reported though passengers were shaken. trains delayed as wrecking work cleared the line and a replacement express ran east.

New York January 24 The suit by the people against the New York New Haven Hartford Railroad Company to recover 7000 penalties for failing to provide steam heat in cars on lines over sixty miles was decided against the road. Judge Agraham ruled the act applies to trunk lines entering New York and that only twenty six miles of the road are in the state.
London reports a rumored marriage of Mary Anderson to take place at the Brompton oratory during the coming season. speculated as the most brilliant event of the season, with Dunlap's Cable News Company providing specials.
