Henry Clay Ide of St Johnsbury Vermont was named by President Roosevelt as Governor General of the Philippine Islands and the nomination sent to the Senate.
Vermont man Henry C Ide has held many state and national offices. Born in Barnet in 1844, he led St Johnsbury Academy, taught at Arlington High School, practiced law, served as State attorney for Caledonia, and represented the county in the State Senate. He led the Samoa land commission, then became chief justice under a Democratic administration. He has bank and manufacturing roles and two daughters.
A mob seized Ernest Baker from the Hopkinsville county jail early Sunday and hanged him after he allegedly attempted to assault a young woman. The case highlights vigilantism in the area with authorities reporting the extrajudicial killing occurred at dawn.
