In North Square a large mob including Italians and Portuguese attacked anarchist speakers after police broke up the gathering. Five alleged anarchists were detained. two were held after questioning. A surge of attackers demanded release as Sgt. McGuire called for reserves to restore order.

A panic at St Pauls Baptist Church on Philadelphia's west side after a defective flue started smoke and fire. In Waltham on January 21 a stick of dynamite exploded in Joseph Derosiers shed injuring his 12 year old son severely. The right arm was blown off and the left leg shattered. The shed was destroyed and the injured boy lay unconscious nearby. Police investigate storage of the dynamite as crowds gathered.
