Sampson's shoe shop cut prices about 6 percent. Most workers compromised. four peggers remain unsatisfied. Detective Reynolds, previously jailed for stealing a fowl, was discharged and plans to prove Pittsfield officers hired men to convict him.
Albany N Y Jan 21 In the assembly morning a bill was introduced making it unlawful for packers or dealers in preserved or canned foods to sell unless cans or jars bear the name and place of business of the firm person or corporation that packed the articles along with marks indicating grade or quality and the canning year All violations are misdemeanors punishable with a 500 fine for manufacturers and 50 for venders.
Richmond dispatch reports that 67 oyster pirates were captured last Monday as part of Governor Cameron's renewed war on depredators. Those seized will face state prison if convicted, with another expedition planned to patrol the eastern waters. Many suspects are said to be Marylanders and New Jersey men.
The Herald prints an interview with Senator R P Grant, Picton bank president, detailing bank transactions with John Logan owner of the large Picton tannery. Logan used bogus drafts to obtain 125000 from several cities. the bank seized tannery and other property valued at 200000 and life policies worth 92000, with a remaining loss of 90000.
New Haven report says Edward J Courtney received four months and William M Jennings eight months in jail for a recent burglary in superior court. In Beaudet’s case charged with attempted murder of his employer Dr ink of Branford no testimony was offered and arguments proceeded. Johnson’s conviction for wife murder in Wallingford will not be appealed and life sentencing awaits.

In Pittsfield Massachusetts today the superior court sentenced John Richmond a tramp who broke into several saloons to steal liquor to six years in the state prison. Prosecutor Mr Crow continued action against liquor sellers for keeping public bars and issued complaints against W P Burbank and Morris Cleary. Liquor sellers fear for their business and licenses.
The sale of Sprague furniture extended seven hours this afternoon in Provence Louisiana. Four hundred sixty eight pieces were sold with about six thousand dollars realized. Purchasers were mainly local residents, with two believed to be Boston dealer agents in antique furniture.
