E H R Lyman Dead in New York at 81

Edward H R Lyman a Brooklyn resident died at his home aged 81 born Northampton Massachusetts February 10. He started as a dry goods clerk in Boston later became partner in dry goods houses and moved to New York to join A A Low & Brother tea merchants. He served as rail line stockholder and director and was vice president of Seaman Savings Bank for over thirty years. In 1892 he donated the Academy of Music in Northampton valued at 150000.

Private 6.8 Johnson Dead Milford

Private Charles Johnson of Company M Sixth Massachusetts died at Milford of consumption after illness in Porto Rico. He was the second man in the Sixth Regiment to die of consumption since mustering into service last May. Private J Otis Cole formerly of Marlboro had died in December.

Caleb Lombard, former city official, dies after illness

Caleb Lombard of Chelsea died yesterday afternoon after a prolonged illness at his home on Harvard Street. Born in Wellfleet on October 20, 1817, he served on the Common Council, Board of Aldermen, and in the Legislature across several terms. He also held a role on the Board of Health before retirement.

Principal witness says beef preserved with chemicals found on ships

Chief Surgeon Daly testified before the war investigating commission that beef shipments smelled like a dead body preserved with chemicals and that tests showed borax and salicylic acid.
