Three thousand three hundred Mexican federal soldiers and generals, ragged and exhausted after a 67 mile march over a rough mountain road, arrived near Marfa Texas. They were defeated by rebels from Ojinaga. About 1067 women and 300 children accompany the troops and plan to ride by train to Fort Bliss El Paso.
The surviving remnant of the Huerta army, seeking asylum in the United States, will be formally interned at Fort Bliss on Tuesday as wards of the government. They will be held indefinitely, including six disarmed generals, marking the first time the American army shelters an entire foreign division.
Firemen rescued Mrs. Bertha Collins her mother Mrs. Ilannah Morse and an elderly boarder Mrs. Louisa LaVelle from the top piazza of a three story wooden block at 30 Smith street Lynn where they were trapped by fire and smoke late yesterday afternoon. The estimated loss is $5000.
Eugene LaVelle was found unconscious in a third floor bathroom after failed efforts to breach smoke. He was dragged to a window by two firefighters and revived at Lynn Hospital by a pulmotor. Lieutenant Walter Martin and Fireman Edwin Mills carried him to the ground and to the auto ambulance. others nearby were temporarily overcome.

Miss Marguerite Teele, 25, who saved her life by gripping her head after hearing her neck snap during a fall on Brookline frosted grass five weeks ago, is nearly well enough to leave Peter Brigham Hospital. Surgeons credit her presence of mind for protecting the delicate spinal cord when her high school horse slipped.
Miss Teele was riding along a bridle path when the horse stumbled on the frozen grass. She was thrown to the ground as the animal kept its pace and she landed hard, frostbound, and heard a cry for help.
Cardinal O Connell assailed present day customs and efforts to found new religions during a Cathedral of the Holy Cross address. The speech implied connections to Dr. Charles W. Eliot, condemning the efforts as "all silliness" and a "conceited notion of their importance."

Berlin Jan 18 The official decoration list adds the Red Eagle of the third class with knot to Colonel Von Reuter who was recently acquitted by court martial over charges tied to the Zabern Alsace unrest. The previous list dated Nov 6 1918 showed only the Red Eagle of the fourth class.
Out law Edward Beardsley remains in command of a barricaded shack near Summerdale as Mrs Beardsley lies wounded with a bullet in her leg. A child accidentally knocked Beardsley's revolver from a window sill at 5 PM and the bullet struck her.
