Monroe Bridge Jan 17 George Pike was shot in the leg and hand by Mrs Herman B Phelps after a dispute on the way home from North Adams. Phelps’s husband had telephoned for his wife to bring the shotgun to meet Pike. Pike’s injuries are not serious.

A morning blaze swept through a five story wooden building housing the Burbank Carriage Company and the Charles F. Worthen Carriage Company in Amesbury on January 18. The fire also damaged an adjoining factory used by Nathaniel W. Folger. Extensive losses are reported.
Quincy patrolman discovers a man sitting unconscious in a sleigh on Adams street. He is taken to Quincy hospital where authorities cannot identify him. The incident occurred late last night and the man is reported in very serious condition.
The mother of Captain Richmond P. Hobson died at the home of Shirley Davis in Boulder after a long illness. She was 70. The son was with her and will depart tomorrow for Greensboro, Alabama, where she will be interred. Mrs. Hobson had come to Boulder last summer for her health.
In Biddeford Massachusetts, Harry S Twambley a noted jeweller killed himself after learning Boston creditors planned a stock take and settlement visit. The firm Samuel G Twambley Son owed about 7000 with 3500 assets. Assignees Henry Morrin and Prentiss Freeman set to visit with creditors. Freeman learned of the plan by phone and Twambley died after saying he would not face them.

He is accused of forging names and bags of fraudulent orders, defrauding insurance firms, and setting fires in Gleasondale. Police recovered hundreds of books, with Bates confessing to thefts and linking to a 1828 Hawthorne first edition theft. The arrest occurred in Hyde Park with his bride present, ties to arson acquittal, and a pending forged name accusation against Rev. Dr. George C. Lorimer.
