Famous Old Church Burns in Brighton Blaze

Fire destroyed the Brighton Congregational Church last night, causing more than $60,000 in damage. Flames issued from the roof at nine o’clock and swept the wooden edifice for over an hour, leaving only walls after two hours. The roof caved in and the interior lay in ruins.

Cold Wave Forecast For Eastern States Delivers Freeze

Washington reports a winter blast as frost and budding signs prompt the Weather Bureau to forecast a cold wave from Maine to Florida. Temperatures may dip to 10 to 15 degrees above zero near New York City and 15 to 20 above in Baltimore and Washington, with deeper cold inland and in New England. Dublin January 16 troops occupied a large portion of the city. Houses commanding the streets were entered and residents on upper floors were ordered downstairs within twenty minutes. Machine guns were set in windows and barbed wire entanglements were erected.
