In Harrisburg on January 15 the Republican senatorial caucus met with 30 senators and 135 representatives present. Cameron was unanimously nominated after Beaver declined.

The Evening Telegram publishes a broker consulted table stating market value of securities for the Philadelphia and Reading railroad collateral loan will not exceed 7.4 million dollars. Par value of the securities is 27.2 million dollars.
Commissioner Daniels announced a new award governing freight rates until May 1. Union Pacific loses 2 percent in Denver freight, while Burlington and Santa Fe gain 1 percent each. The revised shares stand Union Pacific 47 percent, Burlington 30 percent, Santa Fe 23 percent.
The Adams Express office in Greenville was robbed of 200 dollars from four COD envelopes. Frank W. Brewster, an Adams agent, was charged, confessed, and returned the money. He was arrested and bound over for trial.

In Everson Pennsylvania masked assailants broke into Keck Bros store as Adam Keck slept. They struck him with a club, fracturing his skull. His brother arrived and drove off the burglars who escaped with a large amount of loot. One arrest reported.

Albany Jan 15 The Franklin and Emporium Insurance Company of New York city will close its affairs at the request of Insurance Superintendent McCall. Policy holders and stock holders will be paid in full.
A petition circulated at the New York Produce Exchange on January 15 urges the legislature to elect William M. Evarts to the U.S. Senate. It secured over 400 signatures, including every official of the institution.
Peters burg Va Jan 15 Thomas J Davis convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the murder of John Dittman. He was sentenced to one minute's imprisonment and fined five dollars.
WLESBORO Pa Jan 15 George Traviss was hanged today for the murder of Martha Sylver in Charleston April 3 1883. The report mentions Gin that is pure and excellent sold by M Lincoln at No 21 Essex Street, a promotion note inviting readers to try it drawing visitors from far and near.
In Washington on January 1 Representative Hiscock concedes, pledging support to Evarts amid Morton money lobby influence. Albany dispatches report Evarts with 47 ironclad pledges, Hiscock claims his backers join the anti-Morton faction as the New York senatorial contest tilts. On Thursday a man identified as William H. Clark, claiming to be a painter, applied for work in the new wing at the architect's office in the post office. After receiving a dollar from a gentleman to ease his need, Clark drew a revolver and shot himself as he prepared to leave. He was taken to City Hospital with a wound through his coat, and is described as mentally depressed. His home is Beachmont.

George Ayer of Belmont is accused of a Wednesday night deed described as taking polar with no assignment of the act. He leaves a child.
