Vessels trade reports and wreckage sighted near Cape Cod

The morning of January 8 a brig anchored off Cape Pocue reported heavy gale damage with loss of one anchor and 25 fathoms of chain. A sunken vessel with a standing topmast was sighted about 20 miles east southeast of Absecon on the 11th. Multiple ships including Aira, Nathan Lawrence, Connor, Ira D Sturgis, and others are noted in port or bound for Boston or East Coast ports, with wreckage and oil barrels from unidentified vessels observed.
