Two New Fishing Schooners Reach Provincetown Dock
The Louisa R. Sylva captained by Joseph S. Sylva and the Mary C. Santos led by Manuel Santos arrived back at T wharf from maiden trips with heavy fish cargoes. Both vessels designed by Thomas McManus and built by James & Tarr Essex were launched together and chartered from Provincetown. The Sylva fished Nauset with 15,000 pounds of fish while the Santos hauled 25,000 pounds from Chatham. The two schooners, racing in light to moderate southwest winds, outpaced the Mary A. Whalen and Seaconner during the voyage.
