Market Review and Outlook
Last week's market showed persistent support from major players while the public stayed on the sidelines. A broker noted that headlines about diamonds in copper mines wouldn’t move stocks without real buying orders for large blocks. A cautious investor predicted selective bullishness in high quality dividend stocks and stronger outcomes from consolidations in rail and coal sectors. He cited Carnegie’s vision of stable markets through large-scale coordination. Copper supply and demand remain uncertain with new and existing mines increasing output. Weekly changes included gains for American Locomotive preferred and Manhattan while several rail and steel names fell. In Boston, small moves occurred with Dominion Coal and Erie Telephone among the gainers and American Telephone and Telegraph among the losers.
