A stolen locomotive ran along the main line toward Norwich and collided with the Worcester to Norwich boat train near South Worcester Junction around 8 40. Both engines were moving slowly as the boat train engineer had warning to expect the fugitive engine.
A locomotive theft ends when two passengers flee as the boats’ train collides lightly with the stolen engine. Ralph Jardinere, a cigarmaker of 587 Southbridge street, enticed two friends aboard and was arrested by Sheriff Maurice Claire for larceny of a train. At his bedside were his wife, his daughter Mrs. H. T. Sewall, and daughter-in-law Mrs. Frank T. Evans wife of the admiral's only son a lieutenant commander in the navy now on duty on the torpedo boat.
