A Roxbury fire destroyed the Highland street city stables with about 65 horses evacuated without panic. The blaze, starting in the hay loft and aided by 50 tons of hay, caused roof collapse and total destruction of upper floors. One dog died. several injuries to firefighters occurred. The brick building, erected in 1874 for $80,000, was not insured. smoking in hay is blamed.
In Deru January 8, County Court Judge Kelley affirmed all sentences on Vandeleur estate evictees who were convicted of resisting the sheriff and attacking police. He denounced government laxity in handling rebellion and said each prisoner deserved five years in prison.

A warrant was issued yesterday for Mrs. Schoop wife of Jacob Schoop of Philadelphia. She is charged as the confessed murderer of Antoine Schilling based on a sworn statement by a daughter from Schoop’s former marriage. The daughter says her stepmother urged her father to kill Schilling to gain his money.
King Milan of Servia wrapped up the session by praising constitutional progress and Berlin treaty duties. He said Servia has transformed from patriarchal rule to a modern, civilized state and that the new constitution will anchor lasting political life. The closing speech was met with cheers.
The king issued a general amnesty and today the city adorned with flags and was illuminated at night as celebrations began.

The Ossipee now at Norfolk is expected to sail for Port-au-Prince Hayti within days. Admiral Luce, commanding the North Atlantic squadron, issued orders prior to departing on the Galena for Hayti. If three war vessels are not needed, one of the two will return to the United States.

He says the trip is not for politics and he will soon go to Indianapolis to consult Harrison. Senators Hiscock and Plumb called on Harrison with no stated mission.

Moses Bardy about 70 was instantly killed while walking the railroad track near Byfield station on the Boston and Maine line last evening. William Oll was found dead in his wagon on Admin L. Case's farm at Papoose Avenue Tuesday night and was reportedly intoxicated.
