A Burlington to Rutland wreck near Shelburne Farms killed two engineers and a fireman, with several passengers injured. The crash involved a wild engine and the New York bound flyer, near Burritt's Crossing, as Dr. Webb and staff aided the wounded and bodies were recovered for transport to hospital.

Jan 2 train No 14 on the Milford and Brookline branch of the Boston and Maine railroad hit an open switch at Klondike near Ayer station. Two trainmen seriously injured, one concussed with head wounds, another badly hurt. baggage master and express messenger hurt, conductor and engineer unharmed. Brakeman Byron Myers left town after the wreck.
