Blair & Co and William Salomon Co with William A Read Co of New York will offer on January 7 a 17.5 million dollar Denver and Rio Grande rail first and refunding mortgage five percent gold bonds due August 1 1955 at 92 1 2 plus interest. Subscriptions close December 12 with strong demand. Mortgage covers 2500 miles of the consolidated system plus pledge of second mortgage bonds and two thirds of Western Pacific stock, making a lien on about 8556 miles and averaging 38 thousand dollars per mile debt. Dividends of five percent annually have been paid since 1901 on outstanding preferred stock of 45.779 million. The Denver and Rio Grande system has grown rapidly in twelve years with tonnage up ~240 percent and gross earnings per mile nearly doubled. annual improvements exceed 1 million dollars.
