Stocks End Year Higher Amid Bear Cover and Rally
On the last trading day of 1906, a bear cover rally aided by clearing house assurances offset a weak money market. Reading and Union Pacific led declines earlier, but gains in Reading, Union Pacific, St Paul, Pennsylvania, and Reading helped close near day highs. Money rates and liquidity remained tight, with overall market volume showing a record year for 1906 on both the New York and Boston exchanges.
