A cablegram from the Holy See thanks Father Matthew Cummings of Roma for sentiments of sympathy he expressed. The message, read by the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Boston, conveys appreciation from the Pope.
Amid a thunderous Faneuil Hall demonstration Archbishop O Connell and Professor Dwight led Catholics in Boston in support of resolutions praising the Pope and denouncing France for its treatment of the church. About 1800 inside and thousands outside heard calls for loyalty to church and government.
Mrs. Thomas Finn, 50, died from gas asphyxiation at 15 John Street Pawtucket. Her husband, Thomas Finn, 50, was found unconscious in the same room and barely survived after long exposure. A quarter meter regulated gas had ceased flowing and the medical examiner ruled the death accidental.

United States District Attorney Baker of the District of Columbia, with part of his heel cut off, walked 1.25 miles to Brookland to report the wreck. He described being in the second car from the end near Terra Cotta station and helping out after the crash with aid from I. Darby, a Washington grocer.
