District Attorney John B Moran launches a grand jury crusade against graft with investigations into the French Fenway affair alleging 385000 squandered and seeks questions for Congressman McNary over Fitzgerald campaign charges. Pleads to Free Accused Woman in Chelsea Case

Lincoln A Larrabee of 70 Crest Avenue Chelsea forgives his housekeeper Carrie G Shattuck aged 57 who allegedly confessed to stealing his entire fortune. Shattuck collapsed under questioning after Sergeant Gaillac traced the crime and exposed her guilt, as Larrabee seeks her release from Chelsea jail.

Wave sinks five mast schooner Henry O Barrett

A massive breaker swept over the Henry O Barrett in Vineyard Sound near Gay Head. Captain Joshua Norton of Rockland Maine and mate James Conley of St John New Brunswick vanished after the wave flooded the deck. The Barrett, en route from Newport News to Boston, pressed on then anchored off here around midnight. Norton, 57, leaves a widow and was long a seafarer and former skipper of several vessels.

Ten Thousand Printers Strike In Nationwide Job War

The International Typographical Union calls a strike by about 10 000 of 19 000 members in the book and job printing trades to demand an eight hour day. Boston expects a 300 man strike on February 1 as wage assessments of 19 percent begin today. The conflict pits the union against the Typothete, with both sides determined to win the eight hour standard.

Both sides show strong funding for the printer strike. The union votes a weekly 10 percent assessment on wages, estimated to raise about $62,000 weekly, plus $80,000 from the AFL’s strike fund. Fire Destroys City Block in Brockton. Boston Aided

A five story wooden block at Main and Ward streets was almost ruined by a blaze starting in A. W. Shaw’s grocery cellar. Firefighters from Brockton, Boston, and Quincy battled the flames until 2 a.m. with the theatre area saved and adjoining Field block damaged. Loss estimated over $100,000. The cause remains unknown and the fire burned before discovery.
