Fire alarms report damages in Boston and suburbs

In Boston and Vicinity alarms described a Monday fire at Howe's hall Nos 374 to 375 Broadway South Boston. It started in Charles F. Storrs printing office where a kerosene powered engine burned, causing 300 dollars to the building owned by E H Brainard and 1000 dollars to Storrs property, with slight stock loss in the furnishing goods store below. Also Cambridge alarm 64 noted a brush fire in botanical gardens at 11 A M. Somerville alarm 34 reported a roof fire on Mills street owned by George C Skilton and occupied by Solomon Davis, started by sparks from the chimage, causing 50 dollars damage.

Governor pardons Mary Hoey linked to Mandelbaum case

In Albany on January 5 the governor pardoned Mary Hoey alias Lizzie Ellen Wiggins who had been jailed for five years in connection with Mrs. Mandelbaum, a noted receiver of stolen goods. Hoey, after appeals and travel to Boston, aided by her husband, provided information that helped indict Mandelbaum and led to a large restitution by a prominent dry goods firm.

Schaefer Edges Slosson In Opening Billiards Match
