Tramp Turned Ranch Owner After Westward Trek
Frank Strome, once a tramp riding freight westbound to El Paso, now holds a half interest in the Valero cattle range near Jeff Davis and Pecos counties valued near one million dollars, with about 30 000 cattle on 100 square miles. A seven year old daughter of Samuel W. Jennings was dragged from a railroad track by Strome, who fled but was later located and the rescuer was granted the deed to half the ranch. Strome, 48, widower, previously lived in Chicago and credits his downfall to dissipation after his wife's death.
