Ariel 3 Weeks on 7 Day Voyage Ends in Boston
The British steamer Ariel arrived in Boston after a three week voyage from Havana with a cargo of sugar. It ran aground on the Sombrero reefs off Florida during a gale, then rested on the rocks four days before tugs freed it and brought it to Key West for repairs. After libel claims settled and another 24 hour gale, the ship proceeded to South Boston for unloading and inspections. Captain Hyde and his 18 month wife aided on the bridge during the worst of the storms.
