Bound From St John s Newfoundland to Halifax and New York
Struck on rocks twenty miles from Cape Race the vessel was pounded to pieces in sight of shore. The raging seas made rescue impossible and onshore observers report men women and children swept to death. Newfoundland residents among the passengers.

Russia Surrenders to German Peace Demands
The Bolshevik government led by Lenine and Trotzky agrees to hard peace terms from Germany in a bid to halt German advances. Russia plans to cede western territories from the Gulf of Finland to the Black Sea and withdraw from Finland, returning territories to the Turks as part of the accord. A Telegraph Despatch from Petrograd notes American, Japanese, Chinese, Siamese, and Brazilian legations are departing Petrograd for Vyakka.

Florizel Sunk Off Nantucket After Night Collision
The Red Cross liner Florizel with 146 aboard was driven ashore at Broad Cove near Cape Race during a blizzard. All passengers and crew perished. Captain W J Martin steered from St John s Newfoundland as the storm intensified. Florizel was sister ship to Stephano and was torpedoed by a U boat.
