Trusts Pay John Scott Trustee Tells How New Sugar Trust Works
New York Feb 24 During Senate investigation into cottonseed oil, John Scott testified as trustee of the American Cotton Seed Oil Trust. He said the trust, formed in Arkansas and including 70 to 80 corporations, handles 500000 tons of oil, mainly for lubrication and hog lard, with exports around 27 percent and the rest used in soap, edible oils, and manufacturing. He described certificates, monthly statements, and limited communication with mills, noting a $417000 dividend in August and potential agreements with the Armours. The committee heard questions on profits, stock dilution, and the trust’s purpose to stabilize and improve member firms. The panel plans to reconvene tomorrow as Standard Oil names may testify.
