Richmond February 24 The House of Delegates adopted the local option bill passed by the Senate with amendments. Senate concurred in the House changes and the bill now goes to the Governor for action. As presented the measure applies to all cities and counties except where a local option law exists.

New Haven, Feb 21 Charles F McGill contractor at the Horse Shoe Nail Company Fairhaven Jas disa Rosserous unpaid bills appeared leaving town without settling accounts leaving questions about his whereabouts and finances tied to pending claims and creditors in the early 1900s news item.
Henry M. Walker longtime Detroit attorney and one of the citys oldest and most respected lawyers died at his residence in Detroit. Details of his death or funeral arrangements were not immediately available. Walker practiced law for decades and was known for his contributions to the legal community.
He served as editor and proprietor of the Detroit Free Press from 1861 to 1875 and was the first president of the Western Associated Press.

A crowded treasury chief clerk's office saw a stormy scene as a Women’s Industrial League delegation led by Mrs. Charlotte Smith confronted Treasury officials over alleged mismanagement of seventy five charwomen and biased appointments. A hearing followed with promises to investigate. Charles Francis Adams Junior spoke on Union Pacific reforms, urging government indemnity plans and noting stock held by trust firms and widows. he cited branch lines as key to profitability and denied manipulation for speculation.

New York on February 24 an application was made for letters of administration to Sumner E Claggitt regarding the estate of James Henry Paine who died December 23 in a lodging house. Claggitt of Pepperell Massachusetts claims kinship as grandnephew. Paine left four Massachusetts relatives and no will. Surrogate reserved decision.

Hart ford officers arrested George Bement of New York and Al Beach alias Giorgi Coleman for passing counterfeit currency. They confessed obtaining the bills in New York yesterday and traveling to Hartford to pass them. Both are held on bonds of 560 each for examination on March 10.
In White Plains New York on February 24 during John Hannon's examination for receiving burglary proceeds from Tarrytown crimes Edward P Timmins testified Timmins was among the burglars and that a stash of jewelry and silverware shown to him was given to Hannon for disposition Hannon a North Tarrytown constable and saloon keeper faces the allegation of handling the loot gathered from the Tarrytown burglaries.
J. J. Milroy a Montreal ladies' tailor says he is persecuted by American customs officers for refusing to admit blackmail. He plans to bring charges against the officers at Washington through British Minister West after a Vermont grand jury returned a true bill for smuggling.
The first annual meeting of the Boston Association of the Vermont Methodist Seminary of Montpelier was held at the Quincy House. The association became permanent with a adopted constitution and bylaws, setting yearly meetings including one in Boston. Officers elected: C. L. Addams president, Sadie Hobson and Jennie Farwell vice presidents, L. C. Haskell secretary and treasurer J. D. Clough. Mr Adams presided at the banquet with toastmaster J. D. Clough.
Lyman Allen aged 7 of Agawam was fatally struck by the engine of the Southern express on the New York New Haven Hartford line in Springfield. He had served as postmaster of Auravcan, represented his town in the Legislature, and was census taker. A widow and three sons survive. Allen was slightly deaf and did not hear or see the approaching engine.
George Crist of Cincinnati filed suit against Bradstreet's Mercantile Agency for alleged misrepresentation and $10,000 damages. The agency argued Crist provided insufficient information for a proper rating, so an external estimate was used. In the Superior Court today the jury ruled in favor of the agency.
The Department commander of the Grand Army of the Republic in Philadelphia appointed a committee to conduct a thorough investigation into charges recently published in the Record against the soldier's orphan schools of the state. Full authority to proceed is expected from Governor Pullison.
In Paris Maine on February 24, the trial of Wendell S. Foss began for the January stabbing death of Harvell A. Wentworth in Brownfield. Foss allegedly attacked Wentworth as he confronted Foss over Foss's wife, who had left home to stay with Wentworth's family. The confrontation led to a fatal abdominal wound.

Special to the Post Walpole Feb 24 Frank C Lubey conductor of the Franklin way freight train No 5 of the New York and New England railroad was struck by the Providence local express at Walpole station and killed. He stepped from the locomotive into the path of the oncoming train and died after being moved to the Boston train. Lubey lived at Eliot Connecticut and was unmarried.
The Newport board investigating the Washburn electric steam steering gear on the Tallapoosa has forwarded its report to Washington. Trials so far are said to be unsatisfactory. After a measured mile and compass tests, the Tallapoosa will return to New York for repairs before its European mission.

Emery E Rideout 26 year old planing mill owner on State street Gurr bridge was struck in the abdomen by a knife from a moulding machine while at work last evening about 5 45 and died shortly after He was a brother of ex Alderman Rideout and a prominent member of the Odd Fellows and older orders.
In Burlington Vermont on February 24 the carnival featured a five mile skating race won in 27 minutes by Edward Drysdale of Montreal who took the gold medal while George Lee of Montreal earned the silver. M Rubenstein of Montreal claimed the gold in fancy skating with L Rubenstein taking the silver. The 2.85 horse race failed to finish with three starters Columbus Mary A and Sister. A grand torch illuminated procession lit City Park as a main feature followed by coasting, tobogganing, and festive crowds.
New Orleans reports the steamboat Tenas on the Black river bound for New Orleans with 1014 bales of cotton and 2700 sacks of cotton seed was destroyed by fire at 4 p m. The vessel and cargo valued at 50000 dollars were a total loss with no lives lost. Additional fires reported include a Cambridge attic fire at a double house on Oak street causing about 300 dollars in damage and several other blazes in Somerville and Cold Spring Harbor.
The obituary notes Rev Dr Samuel Wolcott of Longmeadow died yesterday at 73 after a career as Yale graduate missionary in Turkey pastor in Belchertown and Longmeadow and Ohio home mission supervisor with Cleveland residence. Also noted Captain Ernest Lane died in Chelsea at 64 from blood poisoning, born in Aprisquam, who became master of a vessel at 22 and completed voyages to the East Indies, South America and Calicorpian coast without losing a ship.
Patrolman Sidney E Palmer of the third division was reprimanded in general orders for conduct unbecoming an officer. The police board announced transfers to take effect Friday, Palmer from third to first, William W Richardson from teenth to eighth, and Charlies W Fogg from thirteenth to third. Patrolmen Peare Murphy and O'Brien of the first division raided an unlicensed liquor saloon at 3 Portland Street and seized three gallons of beer. Sergeant Rieh of the fourth division searched for gaming implements at 67 Essex Street without success. Thomas Doyle was arrested by Patrolman Evans of the fourth division for larceny of a thirty-pound box of tobacco from Winslow's express team on Cove Street.
Funeral services for former Somerville Councillor Charles O Woodberry were held at his Berkeley street home with Rev J B Thomson of the Unitarian Church officiating. Angels Street Quartet sang hymns and floral tributes from Middlesex Bleachery associates and proprietors accompanied the private burial.

Poston Assembly 2006 of the Knights of Labor staged an evening at Wells Memorial Hall featuring songs, recitations and sketches. A detachment of Company A, Ninth Regiment, M. V. M., performed an exhibition drill with Captain D. J. Keefe’s permission. Participants included Joseph De Lyons, M. J. O Mahoney, I. L. George, James Brennan, James tytn, G. Tyler, Edward Fitzwilliam, O. Rice, W. P. Kennedy, J. E. Quinn, Edward P. Britt and Frark Gilmartin. The headlining sketch The Latest Gag was presented by the Boston Herald Dramatic Club.
The tenth annual entertainment by Professor George W. Bliss and pupils of the Blish School of Elocution, together with an organ concert by J W Ryder, drew a large audience at Tremont Temple.
