Washington February 23 Secretary Lansing sails tonight for a three day stay at White Sulphur Springs West Virginia. Observers interpret the trip as a possible sign of government action in the German crisis while others expect no new steps before the middle of next week.
Boston Housekeepers League endorses a West End protest against high prices. Ten thousand members receive a call for a mass meeting at Faneuil Hall while West End women march with a black flag calling for a one day statewide strike or workers. Grocers sell cabbage by the slice and Bermuda onions by the piece as prices stay high.

Policeman Stephen Ryder of La grange street station arrested three men after firing several shots early this morning. He caught them forcing the door of the A B Purdeck Leather Company at 134 Lincoln street. They halted when he fired and were taken to the station, giving names Frank Flamington 31 Milford street Charles Dermizni 102 Kneeland street and Edward Cerathe 25 Union Park street.

Robert Alien Haden, an American Presbyterian missionary in Foo Chow China, perished when the French liner Athos was destroyed by a submarine 210 miles east of Malta on February 17. Consul Keblinger at Malta reported the death to the State Department. Later dispatches indicate the vessel served as a transport.
The French steamer Athos carrying Senegalese troops and colonial laborers was torpedoed in the Mediterranean east of Malta. Despite escort by destroyers Mameluk and Enseigne Henry, a gunboat aided in saving 1450 passengers. missionary Robert Allen Haden drowned while aiding others. The Athos, built in 1914 at Dunkirk, was last reported arriving Kobe from Marseilles on Jan 1.
